I got word back from one of the magazines I sent my stories off to. It was a rejection. My first one. I've got a drawer in my file cabinet that I'm gonna put all my rejections in. Except this one. It's going on the wall.
Here's what it says:
Dear Contributor,
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read your manuscript. The volume of mail I receive keeps me from responding personally to each submission. And unfortunately I must often turn down good work due to space limitations and other considerations. I am very sorry that I will not be able to publish your piece at this time. I appreciate your interest in Weird Tales and hope that you will keep me in mind for future submissions.
Sincerely,
Ann VanderMeer

Congratulations. As rejections go, that one sounds very positive and encouraging. Keep submitting.
You've officially been initiated. This is so a part of the process, I can't even begin to describe.
But yeah, it sucks.
I'm sorry but hey! like Jean said, it does sound very positive and you can't let one rejection keep you down, keep at it. :)
Oh, I'm not down. I'm exstatic. I actually submitted something! I still can't believe it! I've already bought the frame, and I really am going to frame it, to inspire me to keep trying.
You've taken the important first step, way to go! And that's the right attitude to succeed :)
A good rejection, Jason. You get mixed emotions, don't you - bad because of the rejection, but good because it was a positive one.
And a good rejection is the best kind of motivation. Maybe the next one will be an acceptance.
Thanks guys. I'm already working on more stories to send out. Now my goal is to get something published. :D ... probably easier said than done.
Great attitude, Jason! I love the frame idea!
